The aim of having working smoke detectors in every home and business is a high government priority and a great deal of money is being spent on advertising to raise awareness of the causes and effects of fire.
Battery operated smoke detectors are available from any good hardware store but they do have their disadvantages and in most cases will not meet local authority standards.

We supply and install all types of fire alarm systems, including Grade A and Grade D fire alarm systems.
A Grade A fire alarm consists and is not limited to a fire alarm control panel which would be installed by the entrance of the property. A mixture of heat detectors, smoke detectors, manual call points and sounders would be installed depending on the risk of the property and connected to the fire alarm control panel. A maintenance contract would ensure regular servicing and maintenance of the system. A fire risk assessment would determine the level of protection your property requires.
A Grade D fire alarm system consists of hardwired interlinked smoke/heat detectors. The detectors must be interlinked which means when one detector sounds, the rest of the detectors within that system would also sound ensuring all occupants can hear the fire alarm sounding. The detectors can be interlinked wirelessly or by a cable (hardwired).
Both systems can be either hardwired or wireless, in some cases there may be limitations but this will be determined during the survey.
The Fire Brigade and Home Office post-fire reports shows that 40% of smoke alarms in the home did not work due to flat or missing batteries!
