Residential Alarms

An intruder alarm can either be an essential requirement or provide an additional safeguard and peace of mind that your property is safe and protected. Government statistics show that 60% of burglaries attempted on homes fitted with an intruder alarm are unsuccessful - proof that they act as an effective deterrent.

All J&L intruder alarms are professionally designed and installed to suit your particular needs. Our systems can be set/unset using the following methods:

1. 4 or 5 digit codes
2. Proximity Tags
3. Wireless fobs (incorporating a panic feature)
4. Mobile App – manage your system on the go.

All our systems can provide different areas to be set and unset. The typical scenarios could be but are not limited to:

1. Setting a particular area at night when sleeping, the system can cater between 4 – 6 areas depending on the system installed.
2. Isolating pets in a particular area of the property.
3. Perimeter security – setting external detectors, doors and windows whilst inside the property.

There are commonly two types of intruder alarm: Hardwired and Wireless.

Hardwired Alarms

Being more traditional, every device of the system is hardwired from the control panel. The cabling route is determined at the time of the survey. All Passive Infrared Sensors (PIRs) are mounted on a wall or ceiling using a stylishly designed bracket. The main control box (Brains) is located out of sight near your fuse box for the house’s electrics and the Remote Control Keypad (RKP) is located in a convenient place, allowing you to set and unset the system. The bell box is sighted at the front of your property and a dummy on the rear or the side. The installation is carried out to the current SSAIB standards.

Wireless Alarms

Wireless alarm systems are becoming more common because they are more cost effective than a hardwired alarm system and they do not require as much cabling to be installed. Are they as reliable as a hardwired system? Yes, most certainly and do not confuse the systems we install with the systems you can buy from a local DIY store and they do not require the wireless router to function within your property.

Wireless Alarms have vastly improved over the past decade and are now becoming very popular. Long gone are the days of devices not working when the alarm has been armed, random error messages appearing on the control panel, or the external siren activating randomly.

The wireless alarm we install is part of the two-way wireless technology revolution. So what does this mean?

The wireless technology used holds a significant advantage over one-way and even some two-way wireless products currently available on the market.

All wireless devices know when the system is armed and disarmed.

Armed: All movement detectors are permanently awake making the protection much more secure.

Disarmed: The detection component of the movement detectors is disabled, preserving battery power. However, the detectors still communicate with the control panel via low power supervision messages.

Being a wireless alarm doesn't mean you are limited to the accessories available. The available accessories are:

· 10m Pet PIRs
· 12m Digital PIRs
· 25m Long Range PIRs
· Wireless Key Fobs
· Proximity Tags
· External Sounders
· Door Contacts
· Smoke Sensors
· Shock detectors
· Leak detector (basements)

The battery life of each detector is typically 24months, but environmental factors can increase/decrease this.

In addition to the above, our hardwired systems could be made Hybrid. When would this be applicable to your property? Imagine you have a hardwired alarm system and you would like shock detectors fitted to the ground floor windows. We would be able to upgrade the existing control panel to connect the existing intruder alarm system to then add a wireless expander which will allow you to add up to 32 wireless devices. Being wireless you would not have to install any new cabling nor would you have cabling showing on the windows. It’s a cleaner finish with shock detectors available in white, brown and grey.
